A VIRTUAL TELEVISION & MEDIA VIEWER  FOR UBUNTU LINUX

 

OBJECTIVE AND DESIRED RESULT:

Install "Kaffeine" application" in an "Ubuntu 10.04" Linux computer. In conjunction with a "USB tuner stick", "Kaffeine" provides you with a virtual cable-ready and antenna-ready television set inside "Ubuntu..".

 

BASIC CONCEPT:

 

The "Kaffeine" virtual television set inside Linux looks like this:

 

 

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

 

Step 1:

Attach your USB television tuner stick to a USB port.

 

Step 2:

Start the "Ubuntu Software Center".

Search for "kaffeine".

Install "kaffeine".

 

 

Step 3

While still inside the "Ubuntu Software Center", install "kaffeine-dbg":

 

 

Step 4:

Open a terminal window.

 

Step 5:

Type in

    sudo  apt-get install libxine1-all-plugins

 

Step 6:

Type in your password when asked to do so.

 

Step 7:

When the installation of libxine1-all-plugins is complete, close the terminal window.   

 

Step 8:

Start "kaffeine".

 

Step 9:

Click on the "Digital TV" button.

 

Step 10:

Click on "Television" on the menu bar.

 

Step 11:

Click on "Configure Television" on the drop-down menu.

 

 

 

 

Step 12:

Click on the "Device 1" tab:

 

 

 

Step 13:

Use the "Drop down list box" of the "Device 1" tab to select the correct source for your television signal.

 

 

Step 14:

Click on the "OK" button of the "Device 1" tab.

 

Step 15:

Click "Television" on the menu bar.

 

Step 16:

Click on "Channels".

 

Step 17:

Click on the "Scan" button.

The "Scan" button will turn into a "Stop Scan" button while "kaffeine" scans for available channels:

 

 

 

 

 

Step 18:

When the channel scan is completed, click on the "OK" button to close the "Channels - Kaffeine" box.
